“During my participation in the Women In Government Program I went from a shy mouse to a talkative, friendly, more outgoing me. The potential that others saw, yet I could not see was discovered. I formed a great relationship with my mentor, Frances, one that eventually went beyond that of mentor-mentee to a lasting and respectful friendship.” – Josephine, Class of 1999
“Being in the Women in Government Mentoring Program has molded me into the person I am today. I am more sociable, and feel comfortable interacting with people outside my peer group. …I will always hold on to the inspiration that I have gotten from it. Hopefully, I will be a mentor (not just a mentee) when I go to college.” – Kenisha, Class of 2005
“The mentoring program has been a very interesting and educational experience for me. It has given me an opportunity to bond with my mentor, Joan, and establish a special friendship with an individual I can look to for advice and guidance.” – Cerise, Class of 2005
“Because of my participation in the Women In Government Mentoring Program I feel inspired to do more with my life. I’ve learned to be more organized and goal-oriented. I can tell that these traits will benefit me for a lifetime.” – Kwamia, Class of 2005
"...we get “mentor” from the character Mentor who nurtured and guided the young Telemachus while his father, Odysseus, was on that seemingly never-ending voyage. It’s indeed a great tradition that is carried on in fine fashion by Kathy Wright-Austin and her small army of Women in Government Mentoring Program mentors for young women at Clara Barton High School. The school, the city, the state, indeed this nation owes you for all the hard work that you do to send young women, not just on to college after high school, but around the world as coeds and college graduates. Clara Barton High School salutes and thanks you. Ms. Roseanna Bigham -- School Mentoring Coordinator, January 8, 2005
